Summer Roads and a Little Nostalgia: "Right Across the USA" by Moon Construction Kit

“Right Across the USA” by Moon Construction Kit sounds like a summer song almost immediately. The guitars move fast, the vocal harmonies are bright, and you can pretty much picture the road before the first listen is over. But there’s another feeling hiding underneath all that sunshine.

Released on August 21, 2026, the new single comes from Moon Construction Kit, the solo project of Lausanne-based songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Olivier Cornu. “Right Across the USA” moves between power pop, melodic indie rock and classic late-60s pop influences. The layered vocals bring a sunny retro feeling, while the driving guitars give the track a more current indie-rock energy.

And it is catchy. The main motif sticks surprisingly quickly, but the arrangement has enough little details around it to make another listen worthwhile.

The funny thing is that “Right Across the USA” isn’t quite as carefree as it first sounds. Behind the upbeat power-pop sound is a sense of longing for another time and a more carefree version of America. That contrast gives the song more depth than its first impression suggests.

For me, this belongs on a long summer road trip with the windows down. Somewhere with plenty of road still ahead, no reason to hurry, and Moon Construction Kit turned up just a little louder than necessary.
